Mandarin Oriental, New York announces the debut of Suite 5000

Luxurious three-bedroom suite features exclusive year-long art exhibition curated by Whitewall magazine.

HONG KONG – Mandarin Oriental, New York is delighted to announce the launch of its newest signature suite, Suite 5000. Located on the hotel’s 50th floor, the spacious 3,300 square-foot suite blends the city’s finest art, fashion and design, with an array of exclusive and exciting partnerships. Upon booking, Guest Relations will customize each stay from start to finish.

“Our aim is to showcase the essence and distinctiveness of New York City within Suite 5000, and  offer guests unparalleled access to new and enriching cultural experiences,” said Susanne Hatje, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, New York. “Combined with Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service and style we believe this will  provide our guests with a memorable, one of a kind stay,” she added.

Designed by internationally renowned architecture and interior design firm BBG-BBGM, the suite features an elegant soft dove gray and ivory color scheme, accented with rich charcoal and black. The floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline, Central Park and the Hudson River. Complementing the stunning interiors, Mandarin Oriental, New York has partnered with Whitewall magazine to curate an exclusive year-long art exhibition of New York City-inspired works by established and emerging contemporary artists including Kenny Scharf, Shelter Serra, Ray Geary and Forrest Myers.

“Whitewall’s vision to make the contemporary art world more accessible has been beautifully realized within the suite, and offers guests the rare chance to live with, learn about and even collect some incredible works of art,” said Editor in Chief, Katy Donoghue. In-room iPads allow guests to interact with the exhibition, providing access to information on the featured artists and their works.

In addition, Suite 5000 allows guests to become immersed in the finest of the city’s film and music. A collection of films featuring New York City are available for viewing on a 75-inch flat panel television in the suite’s state-of-the-art media center. The living room has a diverse record collection that has been curated by New York City’s own Academy Records, and the in-suite iPad boasts an exclusive “Soundtrack of New York.”

Additional suite features include a dining room, with seating for ten, accented by a Swarovski crystal wall installation, a full-sized kitchen with separate entry, a dedicated fitness area with equipment customized for individual guests and a master bathroom complete with a large soaking tub and an oversized steam shower with views of the Hudson River and personalized bath amenities.

“When designing a new signature suite for Mandarin Oriental, we wanted to capture the spirit of New York as well as the comfort and ease of a personal residence,” said Christina Hart, Interiors Partner at BBG-BBGM. “Suite 5000’s aesthetic looks to the property’s oriental heritage as inspiration while also celebrating the grandeur and elegance of Manhattan with modernist touches and superior craftsmanship throughout.”

Also, the hotel announced the launch of Muze Restaurant on 2 December 2013. The all-day dining restaurant, formerly Sou’Wester, will highlight the hotel’s oriental heritage and feature approachable cuisine that blends the best of local bounty and produce with flavors from South East Asia. Developed under the direction of Executive Chef Didier Pouzier and new Chef de Cuisine Mark McDonnell, the menu will include an international collection of familiar and flavorful dishes presented with a distinctive Asian-inspired twist.

“We are thrilled to debut Muze to our guests, local clientele and the dynamic DC food scene,”
said General Manager Adriaan Radder. “After much consideration, and in response to our guests’ preferences, we do believe that Muze will provide a diverse menu that showcases cuisine that reflects our ‘East West Kitchen’ concept, complemented by universal dishes that our leisure and business travelers can enjoy.”

Menu highlights include: Confit Lamb Shoulder & Soy Roasted Sunchoke, Black Bean Veal Cheek & Heirloom Carrot, Ahi Tuna Crudo, Rockfish Miso Cauliflower & Dill Juice and Tempura Blue Prawns.  Hand-crafted cocktails and a diverse wine selection complete this engaging dining experience.

“We are fortunate to welcome Chef McDonnell to help drive the new concept for Muze,” said Director of Food & Beverage Andreas Wieckenberg. “I am confident that his creativity, leadership and international experience will further ignite the excitement for Muze among our colleagues and guests.”

Chef McDonnell joined Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. in mid-September 2013. Previously, he was the Chef de Cuisine at Rogue 24 in Washington D.C. and was instrumental in managing the day-to-day kitchen operations, menu creation and supervision of all off-site events, including dinners at the acclaimed James Beard House.  His experience also includes culinary positions at Vue de Monde Restaurant in Australia, L’Ecrivain Restaurant in Ireland and Tom Aikens Restaurant in London.

Featuring a dynamic, modern setting that includes indoor and outdoor seating with vistas of the Washington Marina, Muze will complement the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant, CityZen by Eric Ziebold.
