New hotels in New York City but tops in price

The Marriott<.> hotel chain is inaugurating three hotels in New York City, adding 1,000 guest rooms. Two are situated in midtown Manhattan, and one is the Marriott Brooklyn, the first new hotel to be built in that borough in 70 years. The latter was opened earlier this year with 376 rooms and has proven to be so popular the chain is adding a 200-room expandion.

Marriott now operates ten hotels in New York City, with 5,848 guest rooms.

New York City Hotels have been named as the most expensive in the world, on the average, according to a survey made of some 6,000 business travelers. The average room is priced at $225 a night. Average worldwide is set at $125 per night.

Of 59 countries canvassed, room rates fell in 21, with the most dramatic decrease in China and Hong Kong, close to 40%, with a new average around $140 a night.
