Nhow Amsterdam RAI reaches highest point of construction

Largest newly built hotel in the Benelux region with 650 rooms.

The nhow Amsterdam RAI hotel reached its highest point – an impressive 91 metres – on Friday 8 February 2019. The milestone moment was celebrated in the presence of partners and guests with a spectacular projection mapping  show on the building under construction. The hotel is due to be opened in the first quarter of 2020.

Headquarter hotel
With its prime location adjacent to RAI Amsterdam and the Amsterdam metro network and RAI train station, nhow Amsterdam RAI will be the on-site headquarter hotel for visitors, exhibitors, speakers and organisers at the event venue.

As part of the nhow brand family (NH Hotel Group), the hotel will also function as a new social and multicultural meeting point for business travellers, tourists and local residents, providing the premium gastronomy and service levels that support the nhow experience. With 650 rooms, 25 storeys and a height of 91 metres, nhow Amsterdam RAI will be the largest new-build hotel in the Benelux region.

Highest point celebrated
During the festive event at the building site on Friday 8 February, developers COD and Being Development were joined by local dignitaries, representatives of the NH Hotel group, RAI Amsterdam, AXA IM, OMA, Pleijsier Bouw and many other stakeholders.

Since construction started in September 2016, the hotel has been rising as an iconic eye-catcher on the Amsterdam skyline. With its three unique shifted triangular sections, the revolutionary design was created by the world-renowned architectural firm OMA and inspired by the very recognisable advertising column known as ‘Het Signaal’ on Europaplein.

Added value for RAI and city
The hotel allows the RAI to strengthen its competitive position on the international exhibition and conference market and further increase its spin-off for the city of Amsterdam. The Municipality of Amsterdam aims to create a larger and more varied hotel offer that is better distributed throughout the city and saw considerable added value in realising a hotel and associated facilities at this location in the Zuidas business district.

Certification
The hotel obtained a BREEAM Excellent (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification, making nhow Amsterdam RAI one of Europe’s largest hotels to have a BREEAM Excellent score. Its sustainable development underlines the eco-friendly goals of partners COD and Being Development, NH Hotel Group and OMA.
