High levels of carbon monoxide poison were found in a couple staying at the Liverpool`s Crowne Plaza hotel during the holiday period. Joe and Kathleen Nicholl, aged 70, fell ill as a result of a suspected fault on a boiler at Liverpool`s Crowne Plaza hotel.

Authorities have launched an investigation at the hotel after the couple was taken to hospital. The couple were staying at the hotel with their daughter, Mags Barber, 34, and her son, Nathan, aged nine, when they began to feel sick.

The family received treatment at Murrayfield hospital, in Wirral and released on Saturday morning. The family felt ill shortly after their check in at the hotel and they realized that something was wrong in the rooms as in the other areas of the hotel everything looked fine.

The family said that they feel lucky to be alive and now are all well in their health.

Hotel managers said that gas inspectors had been checked the boiler system back in November and everything was normal.
