STR: EMEA, Central/South America hotel performance for November 2020

Hotels in the Middle East recorded their highest absolute occupancy level since February, while Africa hotels saw slightly lower occupancy than the previous month.

LONDON – Reflecting the impact of a second lockdown, Europe’s hotel industry reported much lower performance levels from the prior month, according to November 2020 data from STR.

Euro constant currency, November 2020 (percentage change from November 2019)

  • Occupancy: 21.3% (-70.4%)
  • Average daily rate (ADR): EUR72.42 (-32.3%)
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): EUR14.42 (-81.2%)

Amid continued COVID-19 lockdowns around the continent, each of the three key performance metrics were down from October, and the occupancy level was the lowest since May.

Belgium

  • Occupancy: 13.1% (-82.9%)
  • ADR: EUR77.80 (-32.8%)
  • RevPAR: EUR10.21 (-88.5%)

Occupancy and RevPAR fell to their lowest levels since May, while ADR was the lowest for any month this year. 

Ireland

  • Occupancy: 16.2% (-77.4%) 
  • ADR: EUR73.60 (-37.1%)
  • RevPAR: EUR11.93 (-85.8%)

Occupancy and RevPAR dropped to their lowest levels since June, while ADR came in lower than any month this year.

Middle East

  • Occupancy: 46.9% (-34.4%)
  • Average daily rate (ADR): US$107.98 (-24.9%)
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): US$50.63 (-50.7%)

Africa

  • Occupancy: 27.8% (-58.7%)
  • ADR: US$92.40 (-13.3%)
  • RevPAR: US$25.73 (-64.2%)

Oman

  • Occupancy: 24.1% (-66.0%)
  • ADR: OMR33.81 (-45.2%)
  • RevPAR: OMR8.15 (-81.4%)

Oman’s occupancy and RevPAR levels were its highest since March, while ADR was slightly lower than October.  

Saudi Arabia

  • Occupancy: 34.7% (-38.7%)
  • ADR: SAR498.11 (+5.2%)
  • RevPAR: SAR172.70 (-35.5%)

Each of the three key performance metrics were up from October levels. Monthly ADR increased year over year for the first time since April. 

Central/South America hotel performance
The Central/South America hotel industry reported its highest performance levels since the beginning of the pandemic, according to November 2020 data from STR.

US$ constant currency, November 2020 (percentage change from November 2019)

  • Occupancy: 32.8% (-48.3%)
  • Average daily rate (ADR): US$70.13 (-19.9%)
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): US$23.03 (-58.6%)

Occupancy was the highest in the region since February, while ADR and RevPAR were the highest since March.

Peru

  • Occupancy: 42.1% (-35.7%) 
  • ADR: PEN199.25 (-51.3%)
  • RevPAR: PEN83.88 (-68.7%)

Each of the three key performance metrics were up from October levels. 

Brazil

  • Occupancy: 35.7% (-44.2%)
  • ADR: BRL288.68 (-10.8%) 
  • RevPAR: BRL103.00 (-50.2%)

The absolute occupancy and RevPAR levels were the highest in Brazil since February, while ADR was the highest since March.
