Swiss-Belhotel signed Sohar Beach in Oman

Al Batnah Hotels Company SOAC Oman and Swiss-Belhotel International Middle East sealed the deal on Sohar Beach by Swiss-Belhotel at a signing ceremony yesterday (27 March). The signing ceremony was officiated by Mr Khalid Al Maawali, Chairman of the Board of Al Batnah Hotels Company SOAC, the newly appointed hotel General Manager, Mr Muzzaffer Bulgurcuoglu and Vice President Operations & Development, Swiss-Belhotel International Middle East, Mr Edgar Solenthaler.

The hotel which commenced operations under the Swiss-Belhotel International brand in January earlier this year, is currently undergoing extensions.

“We are delighted to formalize our agreement with Al Batnah Hotels Company in Oman, and are very pleased that the new extension and refurbishment programme has resulted in a solid four star rating for the resort,” said Mr Edgar Solenthaler, Vice President Operations & Development, Swiss-Belhotel International Middle East.

The Sohar Beach by Swiss-Belhotel resort currently attracts a combination of leisure and corporate business, originating from neighbouring countries. However, the hotel General Manager, Mr Muzzaffer Bulgurcuoglu, adds “…Europe is growing source market for ‘inquisitive’ travelers who relish exploring the secrets of the destination and learning about Middle Eastern history. Discovering the natural beauty the Sultanate of Oman enjoys is an attraction in itself.”

“We are delighted with the results of the resort extensions which will bring our room inventory to a total of 95 keys comprising a combination of guest rooms, suites and chalets,” said Mr Khalid Al Maawali, Chairman of the Board of Al Batnah Hotels Company SOAC.

“We are pleased to have awarded the management contract for this property to Swiss-Belhotel International who have more than 20 years experience operating hotels and resorts. The team also demonstrates a strong understanding of the Middle Eastern culture and way of doing of business,” he added.

Talking about the appeal of the destination he said, “Oman is and will continue to be a favoured destination for Gulf travelers. The country is rich in heritage and natural treasures, which is enticing for visitors whether originating from the region or abroad.”

Located on the lush Batinah coast, Sohar was the Sultanate’s ancient capital. Today Sohar is the second largest city, after Muscat in Oman.

“Following the acquisition of our Kuwait property, Swiss-Belhotel by Sohar Beach is our second operating hotel in the Middle East.  We are rapidly expanding in the region and have recently announced Swiss-Belhotel Dead Sea Jordan which joins a growing list of agreements in place for hotels in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.”

According to Solenthaler, their Dubai property which will be named Gold Swiss-Belhotel is scheduled to open in Quarter 3, 2008. He says the group has embraced an ambitious and unwavering expansion strategy and has secured a balanced combination of city hotels and leisure resorts for their Middle Eastern portfolio.

“Construction on our new property in Qatar is on schedule and Swiss-Belhotel Doha is slated for opening at the end of September, 2008.”
