The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) organized the graduation ceremony for the fourth batch of the Maharat Hospitality training programme at the Park Hyatt Hotel. DTCM Manager Human Resources, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, presented certificates to the graduates who formally started their hospitality industry careers with Dubai’s top five-star hotels at the end of their nine-week training programme.

Addressing the gathering, he said: “Many UAE nationals have little knowledge about the careers with the hospitality industry are like and this programme has not only helped in attracting young nationals for the select jobs but also helped cleared misconceptions about the hotel industry jobs. We hope it will help attract more nationals join the hospitality industry.”

He congratulated all the 57 UAE national graduates who have successfully completed nine-week training in different aspects of the hospitality industry. The graduates comprised of 24 males and 33 females. All the MAHARAT graduates are offered jobs in their sponsor five star hotels.

The graduates underwent nine-week training in different aspects of hospitality industry.

The programme would not have been possible without the support of Accor, Hyatt International, Jebel Ali International, Jumeirah, Rotana, Shangri-La, Sheraton, Dusit, InterContinental, Fairmont, Hilton, Kempenski Mall of the Emirates, Le Royal Meridien. These properties are part of the Emiratisation Task Force for Tourism that the department operates.

He also thanked to Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP), National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (TANMIA) and Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) for their contribution in making the programme a great success.

The task force is successfully creating awareness about the job opportunities suitable for the UAE nationals in the hospitality industry.

Due to increased awareness and keenness of the participating hotels, the number of UAE nationals in this sector has increased significantly.

From just 15 AE nationals in 2002, the number of UAE nationals working in the hotel industry has crossed the 400 mark.

The programme contents included English language programme; hotel business communication, hotel interpersonal and team skills workshops, introduction to the hospitality industry; core hospitality industry workplace skills, introduction to hotel departments, job categories and job competencies.

The ETFT, created four years ago, will help UAE nationals through the programme obtain employment opportunities. It launched the pilot Maharat programme last year and decided to enlarge its scope considering the huge response it evoked.

The ETFT intends to run up to five Hospitality Industry Maharat programmes per year to significantly boost the employment of UAE nationals in hotels. The Task Force looks forward to working in the future with both TANMIA and the Emirates Nationals Development Programme.
