Zimbabwean researchers had recently visited China on behalf of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) in order to indicate what Chinese travelers want. According to officials the research which has been completed, aimed at tracking the specific needs of Chinese travelers when visiting Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe has witnessed an increase in Chinese tourist arrivals since it adopted the Look East Policy in 2003. It is worth mentioning that China has contributed 10% of the Zimbabwe`s total overseas visitors in January – September 2004 statistical report.

The tourism authority took some initiatives to attract more Chinese travelers to the country with the training of local guides to speak Chinese while some universities plan to introduce Chinese in their educational programs.

For years Zimbabwe was an unknown destination for Chinese and that is why ZTA was forced to undertake some serious actions. The research`s forecast is speaking for 2,000 Chinese visitors every week to Zimbabwe but many problems are still questioning this number as the country`s official airliner, Air Zimbabwe flies to China only once a week. Furthermore there is need for the development of a better infrastructure network in a country that recently started demonstrating its tourism product to the one of the fastest growing markets globally.
