AI business matchmaking company Grip bolsters team with two new appointments

Anthony Newman has been appointed Lead Data Scientist and Luke Baker takes up the position of Business Development Lead at the London based event tech company.

Grip, the world’s first AI powered business event matchmaking solution, announced two new key appointments to bolster its growing team.

In the two newly created roles, Anthony Newman has been appointed Lead Data Scientist and Luke Baker takes up the position of Business Development Lead at the London based event tech company.

Anthony joins Grip with over a decade of experience as a data scientist. Following a Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering and a PHD in Applied Mathematics, Anthony began his career at defence technology company QinetiQ carrying out research and development in machine learning and AI. He went on to work as a Data Scientist in Formula One for three seasons and then used his signal processing experience to lead the technical development of transceivers for Avior that help rescuers to locate people buried under earthquake rubble. Before joining Grip, he struck out alone to provide end-to-end industrial automation systems and consultancy services across a variety of industries, with automating manufacture of clothes hangers and bra clips at one extreme and modelling of time series climate data for retail parks at the other.

Anthony’s new role at Grip will see him researching both the historic and real time event data to provide insights guiding the continuing development of Grip’s matchmaking engine to provide users with the most meaningful connections.

Luke comes to Grip with over eight years of experience in the finance sector, most recently working on his first start-up endeavour which aimed to create the first crowdfunding platform for sustainable agricultural land purchases. Prior to this he spent over five years at BlackRock in various roles including Business Manager for the European iShares Fixed Income business. His time at the firm also included trade execution advisory work to institutional money managers and two years working with sales and trading desks at Investment Banks advising on the firm’s exchange traded product range. Previously, he held roles in London and New York as Technology Programme Manager at Europe’s leading investment bank.

Luke will take a pivotal role in leading the business development strategy for Grip and is excited about the potential the company’s AI powered technology has to connect the right people across the events industry and beyond.

Tim Groot, CEO and Co-Founder of Grip comments: “We are delighted to welcome Anthony and Luke to Grip at this very exciting time for the company. As leaders in our field, Grip is constantly evolving to adapt to the needs of the event industry, but our philosophy remains the same – to help people make the most meaningful connections with the right people at events; the ones you really want to meet and eventually go on to do business or collaborate with. We are sure Anthony and Luke will make a huge contribution to our continued success.”
