The expert executive in the cruise and tourism industry, Nicky Guerrero, joins the organising team of the International Cruise Summit as Conference Director.

MADRID – Nicky Guerrero, who served as Secretary General of MedCruise during 2023 and has built a great international reputation in the tourism and cruise industry after 24 years with the Gibraltar Tourist Board, has been appointed as the new Conference Director of the International Cruise Summit, the prestigious cruise congress organised every year by Cruises News Media Group in Madrid.

Last November, at the last ICS, David Selby announced that it would be his last year leading the event. The search for a professional up to the challenge began, culminating in Guerrero’s appointment as Conference Director.

Virginia López Valiente, CEO of Cruises News Media Group, said, “It has been a real luxury to have such an involved, detailed, and approachable conference director like David Selby. Over the past five years, David has greatly contributed to the growth of the ICS as a reference event in the cruise industry. I am eternally grateful for his work and wish him the best in his professional and personal life. We are confident that, in our next chapter with Nicky Guerrero, the International Cruise Summit will continue to grow and establish itself as one of the most prestigious cruise events in the world.”

Guerrero has already served as a moderator at both the ICS and other sector events organised by MedCruise and Seatrade, in addition to representing Gibraltar at such events for the past 25 years.

“It is a true honour for me and a great challenge to take on the role of Conference Director of the ICS, an event that features speakers of the highest level in the industry and whose development always proceeds meticulously, delving into the current and most complex topics in the sector. I thank Virginia for putting her trust in me, and I am looking forward to getting to work to ensure that the 2024 ICS exceeds everyone’s expectations,” said Nicky Guerrero.

A life dedicated to tourism and cruises
Nicky was born and raised in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. He studied in Gibraltar and at the University of Brighton, in the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, he has worked in the hotel, hospitality, and tourism industry and in 1997 he joined the Gibraltar Tourist Board, where he carried out the roles of Product Manager and Sales and Marketing Manager. During the latter part of his tenure there, he served as Chief Executive before retiring from the position in 2021, after 24 years with the Tourist Board. Likewise, he was Director of Events and Partnerships on the Board of Directors of MedCruise, the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports from 2018 to 2021, where he was also Secretary General in 2023. Nicky is well known and respected in the cruise, airline, and tourism industries at all levels. He is currently an independent consultant specializing in cruises, airline industry, marketing and communications and has extensive experience in event management.
