25% of Americans traveled abroad by age 8

Study from Celebrity Cruises on impacts of childhood travel.

Celebrity Cruises surveyed over 1,000 Americans on their experiences and perceptions of travel, both in their youth and later in life. The findings indicate that individuals who traveled internationally as children were significantly more likely to enjoy various novel experiences. Some insights from the report:

  • Of those that traveled as a kid, 95% enjoy experiencing other cultures, compared to 86% of those who did not travel while young
  • Those that travelled internationally young were more likely to say they enjoy experiencing new cultures, trying new foods, and exploring a new place when compared to those that didn’t 
  • Respondents that traveled in their youth are 14% more likely to want to interact with people who don’t speak english.
