CAPE TOWN – The Onyx, a sophisticated hotel managed by Newmark Hotels, Residences, Reserves & Lodges, is officially set to open on 01 December 2018. The hotel forms part of an innovative, mixed-use building in Cape Town’s Foreshore, conveniently located on Heerengracht Street, directly opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
The building has been transformed under the creative guidance of one of Cape Town’s leading architects, Robert Silke, together with luxury property development company, Signatura. Its exteriors feature captivating curves and white aluminium-clad balconies, contrasted with slick black surfaces which allude to the building’s namesake, onyx – a rare and striking gemstone, similar in appearance to black sapphire.
The Onyx’s interiors are equally alluring and will meet guests with modern extravagance and sophisticated finishes in a marbled foyer. The hotel alone comprises one hundred and two apartment-style hotel rooms, including Studios, Deluxe Studios, One-Bedroom Apartments, Deluxe One-Bedroom Apartments and Two-Bedroom Apartments.
Styled by celebrated interior decorator, Francois du Plessis, each studio and apartment features top-end furnishings, finishes and comforts. A fully-equipped kitchenette, complete with appliances by leading brands, will allow for easy in-room dining and high levels of convenience.
The building is additionally home to a new, trendy restaurant, MRKT – also set to open on 01 December 2018 – which will serve a selection of fresh and wholesome breakfast and lunch items, including harvest-inspired buffet offerings. MRKT will also comprise a barista station, bakery and deli section, and will be open to the public. Furthermore, an Asian-style restaurant and sake bar will open in the first quarter of 2019.
The fourth floor features a bar, a lounge and relaxation area, top-class gym facilities, an indoor-outdoor swimming pool with views of Cape Town and Table Mountain, and a spa managed by Sanctuary Signature Spas.
