WATG-designed Lido House set to open in Newport Beach, California

The oceanfront quintessential beach house will open in March 2018.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA – WATG is delighted to share the integrated design for the Cape Cod-inspired Lido House, Newport Beach, slated to open March 2018.

Designed to evoke a casual yet sophisticated feel, this unique boutique beach-house-style hotel, consists of 130 rooms, including five cottages. The vision of Lido House is an upscale boutique hotel superbly designed to provide a sense of place and a quality destination experience for the residents and visitors of Newport Beach.

“We wanted the hotel to feel fresh without sacrificing the historical charm of the area. Our design is a timeless addition to the area, with a casual beach house vibe. The Newport Maritime aesthetic addresses our design goals in a contextual, meaningful, elegant, and upscale manner” said Greg Villegas, Vice President, WATG.

Influenced by the vernacular of local coastal homes, the hotel's design and residential scale humanize the project within its commercial context. The architectural character draws on the unique marine and coastal amenities, from which the idyllic Newport Beach destination has evolved and combines classic tactile materials such as used brick, wood siding, trim work, ironwork, with historic roof elements such as dormers and copulas.

The lobby is residential in scale and includes a coffee bar for guests to enjoy throughout the day. The space incorporates large windows and operable French doors to allow the lush beach landscape to flood the interior. With an immediate connection to the hotel's reception area, the lobby will be a gathering place for locals and guests, with a casual yet upscale vibe.

Lido House will feature Newport Beach’s first rooftop bar, providing guests with views of the picturesque bay and the Pacific Ocean. There will be no better place for guests to relax and enjoy summer sunsets, fabulous views, and the cool ocean breeze. The dramatic rooftop patio will also feature the ‘Ultimate Cabana’ located in the circular tower at the corner of the building, offering the best views from the entire property.

“Leveraging the stunning site, arriving at Lido House is like arriving home, the scale and details feel authentically residential. Guests are welcomed with elegant landscape features, grand sycamore trees, and native Southern California plantings” said Lance Walker, Associate Vice President, WATG.

The Mayor’s Table, the hotel's upscale three-meal restaurant, will be a focal point of activity. The lobby bar will have an immediate connection to the hotel's reception area and will be a major gathering place for locals and guests. Spilling out into the courtyard, the grille will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring the freshest local Southern California ingredients.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottages, also feature full kitchens and living rooms, along with fireplaces and barbecues on their rooftop decks. Hotel amenities include a courtyard pool, spa, fitness, banquet facility, rooftop bar and lounge and a specialty restaurant with views of the ocean and marina, where guests can relax to catch the legendary Southern California sunset.
