90° north: fly with airberlin to the northernmost point of the earth

Polar explorers are on board to provide entertainment and background information about the unique nature of the Arctic, in the form of lectures.

A sightseeing flight over the North Pole: in spring 2015 airberlin and the experts at Deutsche Polarflug are again offering this extraordinary trip. At 9 a.m. on 25 April, flight AB1111 will leave Dusseldorf for the vast expanses of the Arctic. The Airbus A330-200 belonging to airberlin’s long-haul fleet will not just fly over the North Pole and Arctic Ocean. Remote Polar regions, such as Spitsbergen and the snow- and ice-covered coastline of eastern Greenland, will also be visible from the aircraft.

“This special flight is already the eighth North Pole flight undertaken by airberlin. Every year we receive extremely positive feedback from our guests about this extraordinary flight experience. Some passengers have even travelled to Dusseldorf from the US and Australia in order to be on the flight,” according to Karsten von dem Hagen, Head of Sales Adhoc Flights at airberlin.

Polar explorers are on board to provide entertainment and background information about the unique nature of the Arctic, in the form of lectures. Films about the Polar region are also shown. A Nordic-inspired in-flight menu, created specifically for the special flight, completes the on-board services available during the twelve-hour round trip.

airberlin is one of the leading airlines in Europe and flies to 171 destinations worldwide each year. The second largest airline in Germany carried more than 31.5 million passengers in 2013. airberlin offers a global route network through its strategic partnership with Etihad Airways, which has a 29.21% share in airberlin, and through membership of the oneworld® airline alliance. The airline with the award-winning service operates codeshare flights worldwide with 18 airlines. The fleet has an average age of five years and is among the most modern and eco-efficient in Europe.

Deutsche Polarflug is a brand of Airevents Limited, based in Essen, which has been organising sightseeing and special flights, using between 15- and 500-seater aircraft, and special aviation tours to specific destinations for many years. Since 2007 Deutsche Polarflug has undertaken regular sightseeing and expedition flights to the North Pole region in collaboration with airberlin, including the North Pole sightseeing flight using the Airbus 330-200.
