A historic July: Record number of tourists visit the Dominican Republic

Between January and July 2015, the number of foreigners and non-resident Dominicans that visited the Dominican Republic was 3,427,086. This number represents 242,846 additional passengers (7.6% growth), in comparison to the same time period in 2014.

The number of international tourists visiting the Dominican Republic during the month of July jumped an impressive 10.1%, with the arrival of 53,708 more visitors than the number registered during the same time period in 2014.

Almost half a million international tourists visited the country through its international airports. This is by far the largest number of tourists that has ever visited the country during a given month. Estimates for 2015 indicate that tourism will grow by 8.8%, according to the Dominican Republic’s Central Bank.

January – July: 7.6% More Tourists
Between January and July 2015, the number of foreigners and non-resident Dominicans that visited the Dominican Republic was 3,427,086. This number represents 242,846 additional passengers (7.6% growth), in comparison to the same time period in 2014.

The number of international visitors travelling to the Dominican Republic accounted for 80.5% of all non-residents who entered the country through one of its international airports. Overall, 186,730 additional visitors entered the country during the first seven months of 2014.

The Central Bank study explains the solid growth in these numbers: “The dynamic growth of foreign tourists and Dominicans non-residents is explained by the improved economic conditions in the United States, the main source of tourists to the Dominican Republic.”
