airBaltic celebrates 20 years in Warsaw

airBaltic launched its Riga – Warsaw service on February 19, 1996 and the first flight on the Riga – Warsaw route was operated by Saab 340.

RIGA – This week the Latvian airline airBaltic celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Riga – Warsaw service. Since 1996 airBaltic has carried more than 240 thousand passengers on this route and today offers convenient travel between the two cities and beyond to destinations in the Baltics, Scandinavia, Middle East and the CIS.

Wolfgang Reuss, SVP of Network Management of airBaltic: “We started operations in Warsaw with only 2 thousand passengers served in 1996, but now we have over 34 thousand passengers annually on our Warsaw service. We are improving our operations in Warsaw in cooperation with LOT Polish Airlines, since last year, by offering more convenient onward connections to 60 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and the CIS. By reinforcing links between Riga and other hubs, our customers benefit immediately from better connectivity with regions where direct flights are unavailable.”

airBaltic launched its Riga – Warsaw service on February 19, 1996 and the first flight on the Riga – Warsaw route was operated by Saab 340. 20 years ago the route was used by 2,222 passengers annually, while today 34,782 passengers annually boarded airBaltic aircraft that links Warsaw with Riga and major European hubs. For the celebration, airBaltic offers one day anniversary sale on February 18 for Riga – Warsaw flights at a lead-in fare of 20 EUR.

As announced last year, airBaltic concluded a cooperation agreement with LOT Polish Airlines. The new partnership allows LOT Polish Airlines to offer their passengers convenient connections between Warsaw and Oslo (Norway), and between Warsaw and Helsinki (Finland). At the same time, airBaltic offers its passengers two new and convenient destinations – Sofia (Bulgaria) and Belgrade (Serbia).
