Hyundai Asan Co., a Korean company spearheading inter-Korean economic projects, has agreed with North Korea to bring South Korean tourists to North Korea`s Gaeseong in a pilot scheme.

Three batches of 500 tourists each will make the journey to Gaeseong near the inter-Korean border for one-day visits on Aug. 26, Sept. 2 and Sept. 7, respectively, to test whether a regular tourism project would be feasible. Gaeseong could become South Korea`s second tourist destination in the North after Mt. Geumgang.

A spokesman for Hyundai Asan said, barring any particular problems, the tourism project will go ahead following the trial rounds. Cost for the tour has yet to be finalized, but it is estimated to be around 200,000 won per person.

Buses carrying the 500 tourists will leave Hyundai Asan`s head office in Seoul via the Dorasan immigration office and then the Military Demarcation Line in the DMZ. The schedule calls for the visitors to tour Gaeseong and view historic relics there before returning home in the afternoon.

Major tourist attractions will be Bakyeon Falls, Seonjuk Bridge, the Goryeo Museum, tumuli of Kings Gongmin and the Wanggeon and Youngtong Buddhist Temple.
