The Australian Chapter of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) is pleased to announce that Qantas Airlines has become an IIPT Partner. Australian Chapter president, Daphne Lowe Kelley, welcomes Qantas as a Special Partner and is delighted that the Australian carrier supports IIPT in its belief that the travel and tourism industry needs peace to flourish and that “peace through tourism” can be a catalyst to international peace and security.
Louis D’Amore, an international tourism consultant, formed the International Institute for Peace through Tourism in 1986, the United Nations International Year of Peace. Since that time, three international conferences and two global Summits have been held with the 3rd IIPT Global Summit scheduled for 2-5 October 2005, at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, Pattaya, Thailand.
The Australian IIPT Chapter, which was formed in 2001, has organized two Peace through Tourism Conferences, the first in March 2003 and the second in September 2004. An Australian Conference will not be held this year, as members are encouraged to attend the 3rd IIPT Global Summit on Peace through Tourism. Theme of this summit is One Earth One Family: Travel and Tourism serving a Higher Purpose.
University of NSW, Qantas Professor of Travel and Tourism Economics, Larry Dwyer will be one of the speakers at the 3rd Global Summit in Thailand. Professor Dwyer was a speaker at both Australian Conferences. He was one of the Sustainable Tourism session speakers at the first IIPT Australian conference and his address at the second Australian conference was titled Relevance of Triple Bottom Line Reporting to Achievement of Sustainable Tourism.
