Boosting Tanzania’s tourism industry – way forward

Investors in the Tanzanian tourism sector are still few in comparison to other countries where investors play a big role in fueling expansion and growth of the industry.

DAR ES SALAAM – The 2015 Global Travel and Tourism report ranks Tanzania in the 93rd position, Kenya as 78th while South Africa is ranked 48th. Despite being among the top 10 countries with the most UNESCO-designated heritage sites, Tanzania still falls behind Kenya and South Africa in terms of tourist receipts. This is caused by a number of factors which can be eradicated by the new government if an effort is made to improve the industry.

“The insufficiency of hotel infrastructures in Tanzania is one of the major factors that hinder the tourism industry. Tourists and travelers who visit Tanzania require good hotels across all the major tourist sites and not limited only to the five star hotels in Dar es Salaam” said Andrea Guzzoni, Country Manager of JovagoTanzania.

The marketing and advertising of the tourist sites require improvement in order that they become more appealing for foreigners to visit. Tourism in Kenya South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt is popular because the aforementioned countries have invested heavily in the marketing of their tourism industry as compared to Tanzania hence they have good visibility.
