Costa Diadema arrives in Trieste

Trieste is the first port to welcome the “Regina del Mediterraneo”, in a mood of celebration for the whole city. In 2015 Trieste will be the homeport of Costa Mediterranea with 34 calls and a forecast of 140,000 passenger movements.

TRIESTE – The new flagship of Costa Cruises, Costa Diadema arrived in Trieste, the first port of call after the delivery from Fincantieri’s shipyards in Marghera (Venice), where she was built with a total investment of 550 million euro. The arrival of the “Regina del Mediterraneo” is a moment of celebration for the whole city of Trieste, that will be also the departure port of her first cruise, the Vernissage Cruise, on November 1: the itinerary will take Costa Diadema guests to Genoa, where the long-awaited Christening ceremony will take place on November 7.

Costa Diadema has been introduced to the city by Costa’s CEO, Michael Thamm: “We are glad that Trieste is the first city to welcome Costa Diadema, our new flagship that will be an Ambassador of Italy’s finest. Trieste is a strategic port for Costa and provides the ideal opportunity to visit both the region and nearby Venice. We are working very productively with the Autonomous Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and with the local institutions for the development of cruising in this splendid city. Our commitment is confirmed by the deployment of Costa Mediterranea in Trieste for 2015”.

Costa Diadema is 132,500 gross tons, more than 300 meters long, 37 meters wide, offering 1,862 guest cabins. The arrival of the flagship in Trieste will be celebrated both onboard and in the city. The elegant gala dinner will delight guests onboard with a dedicated menu, created by the starred chef Fabio Cucchelli, Costa Corporate Executive Chef. Then they will enjoy the musical “Flavors of Italy” at Emerald Theater, combining art, opera, cinema, fashion, Italian traditions and lifestyle, and a great Halloween party. The whole city of Trieste will be involved in the celebrations, with fireworks enlightening the sky over the flagship docked at Molo dei Bersaglieri.

On November 1, Trieste will be the departure port of the first cruise of Costa Diadema, the Vernissage cruise, with an exclusive itinerary calling at Dubrovnik (Croatia), Corfu (Greece), Malta, Naples and Genoa, where the Christening event will take place on November 7. Costa Diadema is just a “preview” for Costa in Trieste. From April 10 until December 5, 2015, Costa Mediterranea (85,700 gross tonnage and 2680 total Guests) will call in Trieste totally 34 times (once a week), with a forecast of 140,000 passenger movements. From May 9, Costa Mediterranea’s calls in Trieste will include a overnight stopover. The ship will arrive in Trieste at 9 am every Friday and depart at 7 pm on Saturdays: a great opportunity to let guests discover Trieste and its attractions. The cruise itinerary also includes Split, Kotor, Kefalonia, Corfu and Dubrovnik.

Moreover, by virtue of a strategic partnership between Costa Cruises and Italian state railway operator Trenitalia, in 2015 Costa’s guests going to Trieste to join their cruise will be able to travel even more easily and comfortably. Using the new “Rail&Cruise” formula, they will be able to get, included in the price of the cruise, rail tickets on the Frecciabianca high-speed train service between Turin and Trieste stopping in Novara, Vercelli, Milan, Brescia, Verona, Vicenza, Padua and Venice. Guests will travel in reserved coaches and they will be able to benefit from a series of services, included in the price: the door-to-cabin baggage transport, a station/port/station transfer service, Costa assistance at the departure station and on board plus baggage insurance.

In addition, Costa Mediterranea cruise tickets from Trieste will include also trips to the port of embarkation and back by airplane and bus, leaving from many Italian cities. Special fares are also available for guests coming from Trieste who are not interested in the overnight onboard.
