Dario Franceschini, Italian Minister for Tourism: 'I highly appreciate the project of a private National Convention Bureau".

The National Convention Bureau project was developed last year within the Mice Coordination Table, which Federcongressi&eventi shares with the National tourism board, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces, as well as the three industry confederations Confturismo-Confcommercio, Federturismo-Confindustria, Confesercenti-Assoturismo, thus surely making it the ideal see for an efficient system.

ROME – Last week the 7th National Convention of Federcongressi&eventi (the Italian association of public and private companies and professionals involved in the meetings & events industry) was carried out in Venice. The Italian Minister for Tourism Dario Franceschini attended the final session and pronounced the following statement.

Minister Dario Franceschini’s statement (excerpt)
“I was happy to accept this invitation, because I wanted to listen and give testimony that tourism will be central in the management of Renzi’s Government. I think that there is nothing more important to the growth of our country than investing in what makes Italy unique in the global world, in which differences, distances and borders disappear and in which each national economy needs to invest in their own strong points. For Italy it means investing on its history, art, beauty – on everything that made it strong through the centuries.

“We will now reason on a four-year time to make a profound work and integrate the two sectors (culture and tourism) which are now administered by the same Ministry. Among the other things, we need to encourage the flows coming from the emerging countries. And to this extent there is no doubt that the Mice sector is a gold mine.

“I really appreciated the project of a private National Convention bureau, because it breaks another taboo that has no reason for being, which has until now prevented a proper integration between public and private sectors”.

The project
The national Convention bureau project was developed last year within the Mice Coordination Table, which Federcongressi&eventi shares with the National Tourism Board, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces, as well as the three industry confederations Confturismo-Confcommercio, Federturismo-Confindustria, Confesercenti-Assoturismo, thus surely making it the ideal see for an efficient system.

The so-gathered associations carried out a proposal, the Plan on the relaunch of the Italian meetings industry, which they believe combines the actions of the institutions and of the operators at the very best.

The document is divided into various cases, but it is focused on the establishment of a National Convention Bureau able to market the Italian Mice offer. This bureau should be formed by an aggregation of private operators promoted by all the business associations, open to any actor in the meetings industry. It will provide a flexible organizational model that will act in close coordination with (and with the legitimacy of) the National tourist office as well as of the regions and of all the specialising players, first of all the territorial convention bureaus.
