Eastern Airways kick-starts Summer with Leeds Bradford – Newquay service resumption

The initial flight was sold out and forward demand is thriving, highlighting the popularity of Cornwall as the UK hospitality and tourism sectors begins to re-open.

Eastern Airways re-started the Leeds-Bradford – Cornwall Newquay service, marking the launch of the summer season as the first operator back into Cornwall Airport Newquay which re-opened to passenger services.

The initial flight was sold out and forward demand is thriving, highlighting the popularity of Cornwall as the UK hospitality and tourism sectors begins to re-open. The UK’s regional airline will operate the Newquay service up to five-weekly, adding to the Leeds Bradford – Southampton service which will shortly return. Newquay will also be served again for the second year running from Teesside International.

Roger Hage, General Manager, Eastern Airways, said: “We are delighted to be back operating the Newquay Cornwall Airport services with the first Leeds-Bradford Airport departure full. Bringing this service back as the first operator into Newquay is part of our wider return. As passenger confidence increases following the UK’s relaxation of restrictions, we want to ensure the right services and frequency is being offered. Eastern Airways is all about supporting the regions of the UK, connecting people and places, so both restoring and adding further services at hubs we already serve is another crucial part of increasing connectivity and aiding economic recovery.”

Pete Downes, Managing Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay said “We were pleased to welcome Eastern Airways back to Cornwall Airport Newquay as the first operator resuming scheduled services since the partial relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions.  The airline has played a key role in keeping Cornwall connected throughout the past year, operating services whenever it has been safe and legal to do so, and we are grateful to them for their commitment.  The strong demand seen on this first flight is a reminder of how vital the links between Cornwall and the North of England are, and we look forward to working with our partners at Eastern Airways and Leeds Bradford Airport to build on this encouraging start.”

Eastern Airways “Book and travel with confidence” will give reassurance for all those returning to travel that we have put flexibility and safety at the heart of our commitment. Extensive cleaning measures are in place on-board and throughout all aspects of the airport journey. Should customers be affected by a government travel restriction, their booking can be amended, providing peace of mind.
