Alternative check-in options for mobile travelers

36 airlines-partners of Moscow Domodedovo Airport rendering services of self-check-in were joined by 2 more carriers – Ukraine International and Brussels Airlines.

MOSCOW – The check-in to the flights using CUSS booths, mobile devices or Internet becomes more and more popular among passengers choosing Domodedovo Airport: During summer months, alternative methods of check-in were chosen by 57% of Austrian Airlines passengers and almost a half of the Lufthansa (48.9%) and Iberia (48.3%) passengers. S7 Airlines and Transaero have become the leaders among Russian airlines: in June-August of 2012, almost a third of the passengers of these carriers was self-registered.

Alternative methods of check-in to the flights are being actively developed by airlines that offer additional bonuses. For example, the leader in terms of the number of self-checked-in passengers – Austrian Airlines – offers a special discount for using the City Airport Train (CAT, an aeroexpress train from the Vienna airport to the city center) and Vienna Airport Lines buses. This option can be used by the passengers departing from Domodedovo which, when checking-in online, receive a special promo-code.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport offers the best conditions for the development of interactive check-in, particularly among those who love modern gadgets. In December 2012, 10 Reprint terminals are planned to be installed in front of the departure gates sectors. They read off 2D bar code data from a mobile phone screen and print out a boarding pass that is necessary for the preflight procedures. Interactive services allow passengers to be more mobile at all the stages of organization of their flight: using one gadget to get a ticket and to be checked-in, saving time that earlier was wasted for visiting sales offices and standing in queues by check-in desks.

The development of alternative services at Domodedovo keeps pace with the global trend: According to the IATA (International Air Transport Association) forecast, by 2020, 100% of passengers will use self-check-in services.
