Dublin as 2010’s dark horse for better value city breaks

The Post Office Travel Money City Costs Barometer report has revealed Dublin to be one of the top destinations within the eurozone for a best value city break. UK Travellers’ foreign currency will go further there than last year as the latest Post Office Travel Money report found Dublin to have the second cheapest costs in the eurozone.

Criticised in the past for high accommodation, meal and drinks prices, Dublin now looks to be good value for UK holidaymakers looking to spend their foreign currency wisely overseas. For example, accommodation prices in Dublin have dropped by 11 per cent since last year helping UK holidaymakers travel money go further.

The Irish capital is a particularly attractive destination for culture vultures, as it was the cheapest city surveyed for cultural attractions. Holidaymakers’ foreign currency will go further as the city has free entry to top museums and galleries, meaning there’s no need for holidaymakers to part with travel money to enjoy a good day out.

In Dublin, the 11 typical city break items surveyed in the travel money report (including drinks, meals, accommodation, sightseeing and transport) totalled £174.86, second only to Lisbon, Portugal the cheapest city surveyed in the Eurozone, based on the Post Office City Cost Barometer research and recent foreign currency exchange rates.
