EICC confirms The Right Solution to assist delivery of expansion plans

Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) has confirmed that specialist conference venue development consultancy The Right Solution is to play a key role in its recently announced expansion project. A planning application for the £85 million extension to the existing building, including an office development, which has been under discussion for some time, was recently submitted to Edinburgh City Council. Subject to planning, work is expected to begin on the new site in early 2010 with completion in early 2013.

Eric Rymer, Director at The Right Solution, said: “The new development will significantly enhance facilities at EICC, enabling the venue to attract a broader range of large-scale events. Our plans aim to integrate the new extension seamlessly into the current construction, creating a new, standalone conference and banqueting facility with the flexibility to accommodate every type of event. We have developed a design brief that will enable the venue to be used as one building, or as two separate event spaces for optimum flexibility.”

The new development will add a main hall of 1,600sqm with moving walls and floor in order to create several different formats, including a raked auditorium for 1,600 people. A further six breakout rooms will be added, along with an imposing entrance atrium and cafe to create a powerful first impression. Eric Rymer continued: “The new facilities will not only satisfy growing demand from current clients for increased space, but will be particularly attractive to the international association market, where we expect they will use the space as a cohesive whole. With purpose-built conference, exhibition and banqueting space, we anticipate that the re-developed EICC will be able to satisfy requirements for 95% of the association sector.”

Hans Rissmann, CEO of EICC, added: “The extension marks a new era for EICC, giving us the facilities we need to enhance our international market presence while responding to the needs of our current client base.  We have been discussing this project for some time, but now we are ready for action. We are delighted to continue to work with The Right Solution to assist us with our development plans. Their expertise is second-to-none and we know that their input will ensure professional delivery of the new EICC to the last detail.”

Τhe Right Solution acted as end-user consultants on the original EICC construction project which opened in 1995.  Other recent projects include Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool, The Convention Centre Dublin and feasibility studies for conference facilities in NewcastleGateshead and Belfast.
