Air safety information concerning regional airlines is now available for twenty-four hours each day, worldwide, for flying crew, ground crew, maintenance departments and management. The European Regions Airline Association (ERA<.>) announced the launch of Fly Safely on the web.

ERA`s first `e-journal` provides news and information on the latest trends and events affecting air safety. www.fly-safely.org is open to all users. It replaces the original paper Fly Safely and will initially continue to be published on a quarterly basis. However, news updates will be added instantly, as soon as any further developments may occur.

The new `e-journal` retains all the original features of its paper predecessor with the addition of several new features, including:

  • First hand reports on selected safety incidents

  • Authoritative feature articles on topical safety issues

  • A calendar of international air safety events

  • A useful links section to other safety-related sites

  • Colour-coded sections for ease of navigation

  • An archive system for viewing previous issues (web versions only)

By allowing www.fly-safely.org to be accessed by all users, ERA is continuing to encourage its policy of a `no penalty` reporting safety culture to ensure continued improvements in air safety.

Anyone who is serious about making improvements in air safety has to believe in the culture of `no penalty` reporting, declared Mike Ambrose, director general. Fly Safely on the web will ensure that the distribution of essential safety information is as widespread as possible, allowing all crew members easy access to safety enhancement data.

Captain Deborah Lawrie, Flight Safety Manager, KLM Cityhopper and Chair of the ERA Air Safety Work Group commented Serious incidents are often the precursors of accidents and it is important to learn as much as we can from them in order to prevent accidents.

Joao Ribeiro da Fonseca, president of ERA and president of Portugalia Airlines declared The launch of Fly Safely on the web is an important and extremely positive step forward for ERA`s air safety department. The global dissemination of www.fly-safely.org will ensure that its status as a recognised leader in regional air transport safety matters is continued.

Jan Palmer, president of Sweden`s Skyways Express and vice-president of ERA concluded: Since 11 September 2001, safety and security issues have been at the forefront of ERA air safety activities. It is therefore a significant achievement for the ERA Directorate to be launching the Fly Safely website at this time.
