This May, conference and exhibition organisers, associations and businesses looking for out-of-the-ordinary  experiences as employee incentives and unrivalled venues for meetings or events are being reminded of Britain’s reputation as a world-class business tourism destination.

Thousands of buyers and decision-makers from around the world will attend IMEX 2004 – the second International Meetings Exhibition – from 12 to 14 May 2004 in Frankfurt.

With business tourism worth £3.6 billion to Britain a year – a third of the total value of inbound tourism – IMEX is a key opportunity for VisitBritain and 20 partners from England, Wales and the Channel Islands, alongside Scotland, to inform nearly 6,000 attendees of all that Britain offers for the MICE sector: corporate meetings, incentive travel, association conferences and exhibitions.

Jeremy Brinkworth, Head of Business Tourism at VisitBritain, said:

“Every year 7.2 million visitors from overseas come to Britain on a business trip. With exclusive experiences as part of incentive programmes, unusual accommodation and meeting places and venues that offer state-of-the-art facilities for exhibitions and conferences, Britain represents an attractive proposition for many international organisations.

“VisitBritain’s presence at IMEX will underscore Britain’s ease of accessibility from all parts of the world and its appeal to business visitors offering a combination of centuries of heritage, inspiring countryside, world-class events and unique cultural experiences with the ongoing commercial regeneration in the nation’s capitals and regional cities.”

VisitBritain and partners including, for 2004, British Airways’ London Eye, Brocket Hall and Starwood Hotels and Resorts, will hold meetings with buyers from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the USA which together contribute £1.6 billion to tourism – 45% of the total business tourism revenue.

The VisitBritain stand will inspire IMEX attendees seeking the latest destinations by offering free and impartial advice and information on the wide range of venues and services available in the UK. The Britain stand also offers visitors the chance to enjoy great British hospitality with refreshing Pimms and local produce, free hand massages sponsored by the Crowne Plaza St James Hotel and Suites and the chance to win a three-night break in Jersey.
