London welcomes `A Taste Of Spain` for the sixth year

‘A Taste of Spain’ will return to London’s Regent Street for the 6th year to showcase the very best of Britain’s favourite holiday destination and this year will bring with it the World Cup. The free Spanish extravaganza takes place on Sunday 5th June from 12 noon until 7pm and will include activities from many of the Spanish regions with Spanish cuisine, sports, entertainment, art, music and more.

Spanish regions from as far north as the Basque Country and Aragon to Andalucia in the south will participate in the event and bring their special flavours, colours and traditions to central London.

Valencia, famous for its ‘City of Arts and Sciences,’ and home to the prestigious Valencia Modern Art Museum will be showcasing its unique combination of city and beach, whilst the ancient city of Segovia, awarded UNESCO title ‘Heritage of Mankind’ in 1985 will entertain the crowds with live music performances from brass band Charanga Chicuelina and give away free Spanish lessons in a competition!

The normally busy Regent Street will be traffic free for the day allowing visitors to sample one of the giant paellas from Valencia, each serving up to 1000 people or head south to Andalucia for Spanish gazpacho, jamon, sherry pouring and wine tasting. Gastronomes will be spoilt for choice with Navarra’s bustling food market also bringing local delicacies from their region.

For those looking for sunshine, the sun drenched island of Gran Canaria will transport visitors away from the capital with a unique photo opportunity and catwalk, and a DJ performance and chill out zone from the cosmopolitan island of Ibiza will only add to the holiday atmosphere.

The neighbouring Balearic Islands, Mallorca and Menorca will also be present with traditional street performances and a surf simulator from Mallorca as well as a jaw dropping equestrian show from six of Menorca’s thoroughbred horses. Returning to London for the first time in two years, this rare performance is a sight to relish and demonstrates all the beauty, intelligence and spirit of these spectacular horses, as well as the skill and precision of the riders who will be performing a wide range of disciplines.

The main stage will play host to Spanish dance and live music including the debut London performance of Virginia Labuat, winner of ‘A Taste of Spain’s’ musical talent contest run on facebook. Performances will also include well known Spanish bands such as Mota, We are Standard and Miss Cafeina as well as performances brought directly to central London from Andalucia and the Region of Valencia.

The Basque Country will showcase live contemporary music and dance from the region including the impressive tamborrada featuring 68 drummers, as well as giving visitors a chance to savour the flavour of the region with a Pintxos (regional tapas) tasting. Gastronomy lovers will also enjoy the culinary experiences provided by the region of Navarra, where visitors can enjoy cured meats, wild boar chorizo, duck and goose foie gras and many more traditional culinary delights in the authentic food market!

Sports fans will be well catered for with a range of interactive activities and a specially dedicated Sports Zone and Hall of Spain, marking Spain’s recent and historic sporting achievements. A unique F1 simulator will feature the FI track in Valencia and a MotoGP will transport guests to Aragon to the popular ‘Circuito de Motorland’.

As well as motor sports, footballers can test their aim in the kick point challenge, tennis stars can compete for the fastest serve, basketball talent can try their luck in ‘shoot the hoop’ and golfing gurus can impress the crowds in the ‘nearest to the pin’ contest.

Those wanting to relish in sporting glory will have the chance to get their hands on a sports zone passport, enabling access to the different interactive areas as well as a podium moment, to capture their sporting achievement on camera.

Everyone can enjoy a fun family-friendly fiesta with special activities for children, great giveaways, numerous sampling opportunities and the chance to win prizes. Even the shops get into the spirit of the day offering exclusive discounts and Spanish themed promotions.

‘A Taste of Spain’ will also be visiting Edinburgh (16th & 17th July) and for the first time Leeds (2nd & 3 July).
