‘Luxurious cruise’ voted Ideal Honeymoon for engaged couples

In a bid to discover what the ‘dream honeymoon’ destination really is, an independent online cruising travel agency conducted a study of over 2,000 engaged couples across the UK; with a ‘luxurious cruise’ topping the poll.

As part of ongoing research into the holiday habits of Britons, an independent online cruising travel agency has conducted a study of 2,013 engaged couples in a bid to discover what their dream honeymoon would be, once they are married.

The study, conducted by Bonvoyage.com, has revealed that of the respondents polled, more than two fifths, 41%, stated that their ‘dream honeymoon’ would be a ‘luxurious cruise’. A further 28% of the respondents said that their dream honeymoon would be a ‘month long safari in Africa.’

Following an African safari in the list of top honeymoon destinations was a ‘five star package holiday in a hot country’ with 21% of the respondents claiming this would be their dream honeymoon; whilst 17% stated that a ‘romantic ski trip’ would be their ideal post-wedding getaway.

In a bid to investigate the matter further, respondents were asked to explain their reasons for the dream honeymoon they had selected. According to the research, more than half, 53%, of those whose dream honeymoon would be a ‘luxurious cruise’, said it was because of the ‘new experience’; a further fifth, 22%, explained that it was simply ‘something they have always wanted to experience.’

Furthermore, of the 28% of respondents who stated a ‘month long safari in Africa’ would be their dream honeymoon, just under half, 49%, said it was because it is an ‘exotic holiday’; whilst 27% stated that it was because it was ‘something they have always wanted to do.’

According to the research, only a quarter, 24%, of the engaged respondents had already booked their honeymoon. Subsequently these respondents were asked if they had booked a cruise for their honeymoon, to which almost a tenth, 8%, said ‘yes’.

Chris Brown, co-founder of bonvoyage.co.uk, spoke about the findings: “I agree that a honeymoon should be a once in a lifetime holiday, and should be used as an opportunity to indulge and experience something that you wouldn’t usually on a normal type of holiday. A cruise would certainly offer newlyweds a unique experience and a holiday of a lifetime; although I am sure a month long safari around Africa would also be a beautiful experience!”.

He continued, “Planning a wedding can be a stressful time. This is why a honeymoon is so important, as it is the perfect opportunity to relax and spend time together as husband and wife. Cruises are certainly a great honeymoon option as they allow you to visit an array of different places, without having to worry about how you get from A to B. Newlyweds can simply relax on board and arrive at their destination without worry, and many will certainly need it after the stress of the wedding!".
