Singapore is Austrian Airlines` latest Asian link

A leading European carrier, Austrian Airlines, has added Singapore as its new destination in Asia

A leading European carrier, Austrian Airlines, has added Singapore as its new destination in Asia. The airline now flies non-stop from Vienna to Singapore and onward to Melbourne three times a week. Austrian Airlines` latest service establishes Vienna as a direct city link for Singapore, and enhances Changi Airport`s connectivity to central and eastern Europe.

Since the start of the year, Changi Airport has seen five airlines commence operations, and gained more than five new city links. Currently, Changi Airport is served by over 70 airlines with some 3,400 weekly scheduled flights linking Singapore to more than 160 cities around the world.

The inaugural Austrian Airlines flight arrived at Changi Airport today. Mr Vagn Sorensen, the airline`s CEO said, Singapore is not only an excellent hub but also a very interesting target destination for both business people and tourists.

Mr Chiang Hai Eng, Deputy Director-General (Operations), Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, said the latest air link augurs well for greater trade, tourism and investment flows between Austria and Singapore and for the respective regions as well.

According to the latest figures, the European Union, of which Austria is a member, was the top market for Singapore`s non-oil domestic exports, with a 20.8 per cent share of total shipment, as at April.

Vienna is the capital of Austria and the hub of the country`s musical life. Numerous performances at its world-class concert halls ensure the city is constantly filled with the sound of music. Vienna is also home to some of the grandest monuments and museums, and the namesake for the famous singing group, the Vienna Choir Boys.
