Swiss International Air Lines is to be an official partner airline of Swiss Solidarity (also known as the Gluckskette) and the relief organisations it supports, assisting in travel to and from the countries affected by the Asian tsunami disaster. SWISS has donated over CHF 250 000 to Swiss Solidarity from its online ticket sales and duty-free revenue and through the reduced rates it has been charging for its air travel and transport services.
SWISS continues to support the work of the relief organisations helping those affected by the Indian Ocean disaster. As an official Swiss Solidarity partner, SWISS offers special fares to personnel of the relief organisations supported by Swiss Solidarity on flights to Colombo, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai and Singapore.
Over CHF 250 000 of help for Swiss Solidarity and relief organisations
SWISS announced on January 4 that it would donate CHF 10 to Swiss Solidarity for every flight booked online via its website between January 5 and 9, along with 10 per cent of the total revenue earned from its inflight duty-free sales for the month of January. The donation based on online ticket sales totalled CHF 61 790, while duty-free sales added over CHF 100 000 to this amount – 50 per cent from SWISS and 50 per cent from Aeroboutique. SWISS has also been supporting Swiss Solidarity`s relief organisations with reduced-rate travel and transport worth a further CHF 90 000.
