Changi Airport`s January cargo and passenger volumes climb

Airfreight volume at Singapore Changi Airport continued to chalk strong gains in the new year, after registering a record-making year in 2004. Changi Airport processed 141,661 tonnes of airfreight in January 2005, a jump of 14.3 per cent over the 123,962 tonnes it moved during the same eriod last year.



Air cargo volume reached 1.78 million tonnes in 2004, the highest volume in Changi’s history.



Meanwhile, passenger traffic at Singapore Changi Airport also continued to climb in 2005. Some 2.53 million passengers were served at Changi Airport last month. This is 0.7 per cent stronger than January 2004.



Full year passenger traffic at Changi Airport reached a record 30.35 million last year.



As an encouraging start to 2005, Changi bagged its first award for the year. Britain-based bi-monthly business travel trade publication, Buying Business Travel magazine, bestowed the Best Worldwide Airport award on Changi. The publication is read by business travel managers, buyers, arrangers and agents, most of whom voted in Changi’s favour.
