Trenitalia’s new high speed services available on Italia Rail

Trenitalia, Italy’s National Railway, has introduced a new high-speed line that significantly improves travel times between main cities across Italy. Mauro Moretti, CEO of Italian Railways, speaking about it in Rome stated that “Rail travel in Italy is changing, Rome and Milan are closer and so are all major cities in the country. This is the beginning of a true revolution. Rome and Milan are now connected in only three and a half hours with no stops. Beginning in December 2009, it will only take three hours… Additionally, the following travel times reflect high-speed technology: Milan-Bologna in 65 minutes, Milan-Florence in two hours and ten minutes, and Naples-Milan in 4 hours and fifty minutes.

More routes such as Milan Rogoredo- Roma Tiburtina are under evaluation and will take two hours and forty-five minutes. Also the new lines are allowing travel from Rome to Venice, Verona, Genoa, Bari and Lamezia Terme in only three hours and fifty-nine minutes…We have dramatically upgraded rail technology to give the country a high-speed system among the most modern in the world. In 2009, there will be 1,000 kilometers covered by High-Speed services in Italy…we believe that there will be an increase in rail travel demand, and we will prepare special offers to meet that need…We believe that in just a few months we will gain 60% of airline customers.”

"This is evidence of the resurgence of rail in Europe and demonstrates significant commitment to rail infrastructure in Italy," said Bret Gordon, president and CEO of Wandrian. "As one of the official agent for Trenitalia, we look forward to promoting this exciting new line to UK travel agents, the corporate markets, and consumers. The further expansion of high-speed rail changes the landscape of Italian travel. By offering travellers additional cost-effective and convenient alternatives to air and auto, the rail industry will continue to grow its share of the travel market."
