Vueling seat factor reaches 66.5% in January

Vueling achieved a seat load factor of 66.5% in January, representing a 2.7% increase year on year. The company carried a total of 642.543 passengers during the first month of 2011.

As previously announced, Vueling will end 2011 with the addition of 14 new aircraft this summer, bolstering its fleet to 47. Six of these Airbus A320 aircraft will be added progressively between April and June, with a further three, including one A319, coming on line before year end. The additional aircraft are necessary to meet forecasted growth and enable Vueling to meet its goal of lowering the average age of its fleet.

Five more aircraft wil be incorporated into its Madrid base, following a newly struck agreement with Iberia, whereupon Vueling will assume part of their operations at Madrid-Barajas airport for at least eight months. With this agreement, Vueling will provide feed traffic to Iberia’s long-haul flights not only at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport, but also in Madrid-Barajas, during 2011.

Vueling still dominates El Prat market share, being 10 per cent over its biggest competitor, which has a market share of 13%.
