The only low-cost scheduled transatlantic flights between Manchester and Canada took off last Wednesday launching the start of a year-round service .

Zoom Airlines` inaugural flight from Manchester to Vancouver departed at almost maximum capacity providing a full scheduled service with meals, drinks and entertainment at the lowest prices available.

Zoom fares start at £89 one-way inclusive of tax to East coast cities and £129 one-way to West coast cities, a factor that is proving extremely popular with the travelling public.

Direct flights throughout the summer will operate twice weekly to Vancouver and Toronto and weekly to Calgary.

The level of demand for the Manchester service has been exceptional and Zoom has extended the service throughout the whole of winter offering weekly flights to Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary.

Launching the service today (Wednesday), Margaret Matheson, Director of Zoom Airlines, said: “We are delighted to be launching the start of the Manchester service which has proven to be extremely popular since the flights were first announced. We have added extra flights out of Manchester for the summer programme and have extended into the winter months, offering high standard low-cost flights year-round.

“As a holiday destination Canada is renowned for both its summer and winter appeal. It offers an abundance of tourist attractions, summer activities and some of the most fantastic ski resorts in the world.”

John Spooner, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, said: “Zoom Airlines will be a much welcomed addition to our Canadian route network. I`m sure their new route will prove to be very popular with our passengers.

“In 2004 we saw 208,000 passengers fly between Canada and Manchester. I`m not at all surprised we`re seeing the leisure market grow in the way that it is. Canada`s a great place to go, especially for those who love the outdoors.”

Premium seats are available on all Zoom flights and can be booked for an additional £49 each way to East coast cities and £79 each way to West coast, offering additional legroom, superior in-flight meals and complimentary drinks for the duration of your flight.

Zoom now operates scheduled flights from Manchester, Gatwick, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast, servicing eight Canadian cities; Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
