The Luonnos exhibition is a co-production with Haltia – The Finnish Nature Centre, which is located only 45 minutes from the airport. It showcases the pearls of Finnish nature under one roof.
At Helsinki Airport, Finavia has opened a new exhibition with Haltia – The Finnish Nature Centre. Luonnos presents the arctic nature and examples of modern Finnish design inspired by it. The exhibition is part of Finnavia’s efforts to further improve the service at Helsinki Airport and offer passengers intresting activities to pass the time before their flight.
Luonnos is closely linked to Finavia’s 1 billion euros development programme which aims to strengthen Helsinki Airport’s position as a an important hub for air traffic between Europe and Asia.
“Our aim is to give the passengers travelling via Helsinki Airport a superior travel experience and offer them new and surprising services,” says Ville Haapasaari, director of Helsinki Airport.
Luonnos displays works by 12 Finnish contemporary designers whose work is inspired by the landscapes, colours, sounds and materials of Lapland.
In addition to the exhibition, the airport’s comprehensive range of activities are available to passengers free of charge. They include Art Gallery, which displays contemporary art, an exhibition of aviation photography as well as a book exchange.
According to airport director Ville Haapasaari, various exhibitions and events constitute an important part of the airport’s services. The provide memorable experiences to passengers and function as a stopping point in the hectic airport milieu.
Moreover, the exhibitions tell the passengers about Finland and its range of tourist destinations.
“Of the 15 million passengers at Helsinki Airport, almost half are foreigners. For them, the airport is the first – and often even the only – touching point with Finland,” Haapasaari says.
Why not visit Haltia while waiting for the flight?

The nature centre is a new, attractive tourist destination in the Helsinki metropolitan area. More than half of the tourists on holiday in Finland come here because of the Finnish nature. In Haltia, they can experience the Northern Lights of the arctic winter, enjoy the scenery of the archipelago in summer and marvel at the colours of a marshland in autumn all in one visit.
“After seeing the Luonnos exhibition at the airport, we hope that passengers in transit would be inspired to visit Haltia while they wait for their connecting flight. It might tempt them to select Finland as their next holiday destination,” says Timo Kukko, director of Haltia.
