Hospitality and commercial design firm Urbahn Architects hires Ijeoma D. Iheanacho as Senior Project Designer

The value of New York City-based architecture and planning firm’s current domestic and international projects exceeds $500 million.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Ijeoma D. Iheanacho, LEED AP, has joined the prominent New York City architecture, design, and planning firm of Urbahn Architects as Senior Project Designer. Building Design & Construction magazine ranks Urbahn as the 83rd largest architectural firm in the U.S.

“Ijeoma’s talent and experience in designing and managing complex projects in the hospitality, gaming, and commercial markets will tremendously benefit Urbahn’s clients. Her expertise will help project teams accelerate design work and streamline interactions with clients and consultants,” said Urbahn Principal Natale V. Barranco, AIA, LEED AP.

Iheanacho’s responsibilities include managing design activities; supervising project teams; interacting with clients; coordinating engineering, legal, and zoning consultants; and administering construction activities.

Urbahn’s recent work includes the Georgetown Marriott Resort Hotel and Gaming Center in Georgetown, Guyana; Paradise Crossing mixed-use development in Jamaica; and the $70 million Tides North development in Arverne, N.Y.

Iheanacho served as a board member of the New York Coalition of Black Architects/New York Chapter of The National Organization of Minority Architects (NYCOBA/NOMA), and is a past President of the NOMA Student Chapter. She also is a fine art photographer and produces and curates art shows. Most recently, she exhibited her work during a show organized by the Montefiore Fine Art Program and Collection.

Prior to joining Urbahn, Iheanacho worked in design positions at BFB Architect, Dattner Architects, and William Nicholas Boudova + Associates. She received a Bachelor in Architecture from Cornell University College of Art, Architecture, and Planning in 2001. Iheanacho grew up in Texas, in an Ibo tribe family, which immigrated to the United States from Imo state in Nigeria.

Urbahn Architects is a full-service planning and design firm based in New York City. Since its founding in 1945, the firm has designed some of the nation’s most iconic structures, including the Vehicle Assembly Building and Launch Control at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL, one of the largest buildings in the world by volume at 130 million cubic feet. Urbahn’s annual domestic and international project workload exceeds $500 million in construction value.
