The new weekly Saturday service bookable at easternairways.com will offer 45% more capacity than in recent years given the UK staycation demand to destinations such as the Channel Islands.

Eastern Airways, the UK’s regional airline and based at Humberside Airport,  announced the launch of a Summer 2021 service to Jersey in the Channel Islands commencing on Saturday 19th June.

The new weekly Saturday service bookable at easternairways.com will offer 45% more capacity than in recent years given the UK staycation demand to destinations such as the Channel Islands. Operated in partnership with CI Travel Group and Premier Holidays, the service from Eastern Airways home base will complement the Aberdeen service that has operated continuously from the Humber region airport since 1997.

Roger Hage, General Manager, Eastern Airways, said: “Given the UK staycation growth especially for this summer, we are bringing this popular Channel Island service to Jersey back to Humberside Airport for the summer season. As passenger confidence increases following the UK’s relaxation of restrictions, we want to ensure the right services are being offered. Eastern Airways is all about supporting the regions of the UK, connecting people and places, so commencing Jersey will offer a welcome UK break destination from Humberside. Given recent new leisure additions such as Gibraltar from Birmingham and Southampton and Newquay from Leeds-Bradford, both restoring and adding further services at hubs we already serve are another crucial part of increasing connectivity and aiding economic recovery.”

Deborah Zost, managing director, Humberside Airport said: “We are very pleased that Eastern Airways has confirmed it will continue the well-established service from its home base at Humberside, to Jersey in the Channel Islands. We look forward to welcoming holidaymakers back to our airport, alongside business travellers who have relied on our ongoing operational support for airline and helicopter service providers throughout the pandemic.

“The return of the Jersey service as travel restrictions continue to ease is a positive sign of recovery for the UK economy."

Robert Mackenzie, Managing Director, CI Travel Group said: “We have been associated with operating direct flights to Jersey from the Humberside region for many years. So, it is fantastic to be partnering with Eastern Airways this year to continue the popular service and offering holidays in this beautiful island. We are really looking forward to welcoming our clients back to Jersey from June onwards.”

Eastern Airways “Book and travel with confidence” will give reassurance for all those returning to travel that we have put flexibility and safety at the heart of our commitment. Extensive cleaning measures are in place on-board and throughout all aspects of the airport journey. Should customers be affected by a government travel restriction, their booking can be amended, providing peace of mind.

The UK’s regional airline will operate the service weekly from 19th June until 25th September with fares from Jersey starting from £84.99 including taxes and charges with 15kg checked baggage as standard.

A service from Teesside to Jersey is also operating weekly on Saturday’s from 29th May with Eastern Airways.

Easten Airways Birmingham to Gibraltar service goes green
Eastern Airways has also launched its new service to the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. This marks the operator’s return to Birmingham Airport as well as the popular route, previously served by Monarch.

This new Gibraltar route re-connects the Midlands with this green list destination, located on the Iberian Peninsula with a twice-weekly service, year-round. As the UK’s second largest city, Birmingham will be linked again to Gibraltar after a 4-year hiatus to provide connectivity for both the business and leisure markets.

The service will be operated on the airline’s Embraer E-Jet fleet with all fares including a 15kg hold baggage allowance as standard and if you book together, you sit together providing some peace of mind at no additional cost.

Roger Hage, GM for Eastern Airways, said: “What a welcome sign of summer and return to enjoying the sun in the Mediterranean this first service from Birmingham to Gibraltar marks. Being on the green list of destinations with a wealth of quality hotels, beaches, water-sports and heritage, this British Overseas Territory offers an exciting short-break destination aside from its role in UK business. Our work with the Gibraltar Government and the airports and tourism teams have enabled this new service to start and complements the service from Southampton, highlighting the pivotal role Eastern Airways (the UK’s regional airline) is playing in growing air services across all four home nations.”

Vijay Daryanani MP, Minister for Business, Tourism, Transport & the Port for Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar said, “We warmly welcome Eastern Airways new service, opening up another catchment area for Gibraltar. The service will be another boost to our tourism and business communities. We look forward to working with the airline on more opportunities for the future.”

Tom Screen, Aviation Director for Birmingham Airport said: "It is great news to have Eastern Airways as a partner airline at Birmingham Airport again offering customers the chance to fly direct to Gibraltar. The route has been unserved from Birmingham since 2017 so we are delighted to add this to our choice of destinations, once again, for our customers.  Gibraltar, with its status on the green list, is a popular destination to our leisure customers, for a sunny getaway, but also an important business route providing access to this British territory. We look forward to working with Eastern Airways to offer customers more destinations direct from their local airport.”.

“Both Birmingham Airport and Eastern Airways have a full enhanced cleaning structure in place and can reassure customers that their safety if is of paramount importance.”

Eastern Airways’ services continue to be carefully reintroduced as COVID-19 restrictions ease; with extensive cleaning measures on-board and throughout all aspects of the airport for the safety of all passengers. Eastern Airways recently launched Southampton to Gibraltar and Cardiff to Belfast, expanding its network of destinations.

Eastern Airways network also includes Aberdeen, Anglesey, Belfast, Cardiff, Dublin, Gibraltar, Humberside, Jersey, Leeds-Bradford, Manchester, Nantes, Newquay, Rennes, Southampton, Sumburgh and Teesside among scheduled destinations.
