Icelandic Cuisine & Culture Festival comes to New York City this fall

'A Taste of Iceland' brings the finest of Icelandic cuisine, music and culture to Manhattan from October 3-6, 2013.

NEW YORK – Iceland Naturally announced the details surrounding the October ‘A Taste of Iceland’ festival in New York City. ‘A Taste of Iceland’ is an annual event held in cities across the U.S. that celebrates Iceland’s music, food & culture, and this will be its first year in New York. The multi-day event will take place during the first week of October and includes the free Reykjavik Calling concert presented by Iceland Airwaves and Filter Magazine, as well as two days dedicated to the best of New Nordic cuisine and the Icelandic culinary experience.

On Saturday, October 5th, ‘A Taste of Iceland’ will host the free Reykjavik Calling concert, presented by Iceland Airwaves and Filter Magazine, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York’s Greenwich Village. The concert will feature three of the best emerging Icelandic musicians, collaborating with two New York acts. The Icelandic performers are singer-songwriter Snorri Helgason, Iceland’s queen of alternative pop Lara Runars, and electro four piece Sykur. From NYC, Petter Stakee from popular rock band Alberta Cross will collaborate with Lara, and DJ Caveman will collaborate with Sykur. DJ Caveman recently won Reyka Vodka’s Iceland Airwaves competition to play at the Iceland Airwaves music festival in November. The show will be 18+, with doors opening at 6pm, and the show running from 6:30-10pm. The audience should expect to hear the best of emerging Icelandic and American music. Past Icelandic musicians to take part in the Reykjavik Calling concert include: Of Monsters And Men, Lay Low, Soley, and Asgeir Trausti.

‘A Taste of Iceland’, in partnership with the NORTH Nordic Food Festival (October 2-7), will also be flying in acclaimed Icelandic chef Gunnar Karl Gislason of Reykjavik’s famous Dill restaurant, to collaborate with ACME’s Mads Refslund (founder of Noma in Copenhagen), to create a truly Icelandic culinary experience in NYC. The special food & Reyka cocktail menu will be open to the general public, including a 4-course lunch menu on Thursday, October 3rd and an 8-course dinner menu on Sunday, October 6th, at ACME in New York’s East Village.

The ‘A Taste of Iceland’ festival aims to promote awareness of Iceland as an accessible travel destination for New Yorkers and members of the metro tri-state area. New York’s JFK Airport offers a five-hour direct non-stop daily flight on Icelandair to Reykjavik, which is a vibrant hotbed of culture, fashion and food. Additionally, Icelandair will begin service from Newark Airport in October.
