Pioneering flight booking platform, SelfConnect, launched: Connecting low cost fares with long haul flights

SelfConnect is a new flight booking platform set to revolutionise the way passengers book flights and travel long-haul.

SelfConnect
is a new flight booking site that enables users to book two or more flights – combining low cost with national and commercial long-haul carriers – in one single transaction.

It is a pioneering independent flight booking tool that offers customers the protection of a guaranteed onward flight, without being limited to more costly flight options that offer a through check-in. Should a passenger miss a transfer due to an earlier flight delay or cancellation, SelfConnect’s long-haul ‘Partner’ Airlines offer the promise of arranging new onward travel arrangements without additional charge.

SelfConnect launches with major low-cost short-haul ‘Link’ Airlines including Norwegian, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Germanwings, among others, enabling customers to take advantage of a vast network of local UK and European departures and competitive fares to connect them to far-flung destinations.

The OTA’s ‘Partner’ Airlines for launch are Avianca and Aerolineas Argentinas. Combined with short-haul routes, the Colombian and Argentinian carriers will connect Brits from 12 UK departure points (LGW, EDI, LPL, SEN, BRS, LTN, NCL, BFS, BHD, BHX, CWL and MAN) to 45 destinations in 14 countries throughout the South American continent via Madrid or Barcelona, including: Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Cuba, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, Mexico, Uruguay, Costa Rica and El Salvador.

SelfConnect will also facilitate long-haul travel to Latin America from 74 European departure points in Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Norway, Czech Republic, Sweden, Austria, Poland, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Serbia and Romania.

The networks of Partner and Link Airlines will be expanded following launch in order to broaden the SelfConnect connectivity to more global destinations.

  • There are several unique benefits for passengers who choose SelfConnect:
  • Payment for two or more flights using different airlines and including low-cost options in one single transaction
  • Security of a guaranteed transfer between low cost and long-haul airlines
  • Departures from local UK airports, removing the need to transit via major hubs such as LGW or LHR
  • Low cost short-haul flight + exclusive low fares on long haul flights = hugely competitive overall fares
  • A live-fares booking system reflects any special offers or seasonal sale prices for both link and partner airlines
  • SelfConnect connects previously ‘disconnected’ airlines or routes

SelfConnect director, Sam Argyle, commented: “We’re hugely excited to offer independent travellers the option of combining low-cost and long-haul flights to access more route options, more local departures, unique fares and increased frequency, whilst our agreements with Partner Airlines mean that SelfConnect customers also benefit from guaranteed onward flights. Low-cost travel is truly extended and widely accepted today by all demographics as a cost-effective and convenient way to travel. Our mission is to ensure that the benefits of low-cost travel help to improve the long-haul travel experience too.”

Low cost airlines will be linking passengers from both UK and key European hubs to long-haul Avianca routes into South America thanks to SelfConnect. “Avianca is looking forward to the SelfConnect launch so we can begin offering unique benefits to UK and European travellers and increase occupancy for our routes out of Europe” said Avianca’s Agustin Arango, Director Europe. “SelfConnect will begin transferring passengers to Avianca routes via Barcelona and Madrid, using specially selected European short-haul flights. It’s a win-win for consumers and airlines alike.”
