The city break destinations experiencing growth include Manchester (43%), Belfast (22%), Dublin (32%) and Amsterdam (19%), compared with August 2013.

Southampton Airport has seen more than 200,000 passengers through its doors this August – the highest number in a single month since August 2007 and representing a 3% increase in passengers over 2013. The route with the largest growth, year on year, was Guernsey with an increase of 53% more passengers.

The city break destinations experiencing growth include Manchester (43%), Belfast (22%), Dublin (32%) and Amsterdam (19%), compared with August 2013.  Expansion was also seen in the French regional flights to and from Clermont Ferrand, Brest, Rennes, Limoges, Nantes, Bordeaux and La Rochelle. Verona was also up on 2013 this August.

Jan Halliday, Director of Marketing & Communications, said: “We have seen a 3% growth in our passenger numbers in August 2014 versus the same month in 2013. It is also the first time that over 200,000 passengers have used the airport in one month since 2007. The route that has seen the greatest growth is Guernsey, which is operated by both Blue Islands and Flybe, with up to eight daily flights. An additional rotation is due to start to Guernsey in October with Blue Islands.”

The airport is gearing up for a busy autumn, with new flights to Hamburg and additional services to Leeds Bradford and Aberdeen starting at the end of October, with Flybe. The ski season is just around the corner and with flights to Andorra, Grenoble Innsbruck, Chambery, Salzburg and Geneva, a range of resorts in the Alps and Pyrenees are just a short hop away.
