Successful Sharjah road shows in major Russian cities

Al Midfa: SCTDA keen to reinforce Emirate’s leading position in Russian tourism market.

SHARJAH – Sharjah continues to wow Russian travellers. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has wrapped up a successful promotional tour of the country, from June 2 to 6. In cooperation with Air Arabia, the SCTDA’s Russian road show touched key cities such as Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Rostov conducting a number of meetings and workshops about the emirate’s tourism offering and latest attractions and developments in the industry. The meetings and works attracted the movers and shakers and representatives of the Russian tourism industry and media.

Those present included Mr Vitaly Korovkin, Head, Department of International Cooperation, Federal Agency of Russia Tourism, who also met and held talks with HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. The two sides discussed future cooperation in tourism exchange and shared their experiences.

Al Midfa also interacted with a number of journalists in the city of Kazan, expressing the emirate’s keenness to reinforce its position in the strategic Russian tourism market with special focus on the latest and upcoming tourism projects and developments in Sharjah.

The SCTDA Director General expressed his satisfaction over the success of the Russian road show saying it had been high on the Authority’s 2014 agenda which is focused on showcasing Sharjah’s special tourism product and experience in major global markets, highlighting its unique heritage, culture, annual festivals and other distinguishing features that have brought it accolades such as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014.

Al Midfa said that the Sharjah delegation has been successful in connecting with the leading players of the Russian market which would help the two sides in strengthening their cooperation and exchange in experience and expertise and attract more investors and tourists.  With Air Arabia offering more than 15 weekly flights to five destinations in Russia, these ties are set to further strengthen in the future, emphasised Al Midfa.

The SCTDA Director General expressed the Authority’s keenness to boost the emirate’s presence in the Russian market by showcasing the best of Sharjah in major tourism and trade exhibitions such as Moscow International Travel and Tourism and Leisure Moscow fairs, besides setting up representative offices and unveiling special publications and dedicated website in the Russian language.

Al Midfa pointed out that Russia happens to be one of the largest tourism exporting markets in the world.  Sharjah has always been an attractive holiday option for Russian tourists, thanks to its sunny weather throughout the year, golden beaches along the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman and plenty of leisure, recreation and shopping opportunities it offers to international visitors.  The emirate boasts more than 105 world-class luxury hotels, advanced infrastructure, numerous museums, art and culture centres and universities.

This is the second road show organised by the SCTDA in Russia in cooperation with Air Arabia.  The Sharjah delegation included, besides the SCTDA and Air Arabia, representatives of Hotel Coral Beach Resort, Hotel Centro and Sharjah Rotana.

The SCTDA is also planning, in cooperation with Air Arabia, a number of road shows and workshops in major cities in the Gulf and India later this year.
