The Vencedor Award to be presented to SeaDream I

The luxurious yacht is named the world’s best small cruise ship.

NEW YORK – Dream Luxury Cruises, a retail cruise organization located in Verona, New Jersey, will be presenting the second of their Vencedor awards to SeaDream I, the celebrated small cruise ship owned and operated by Sea Dream Yacht Club headquartered in Oslo, Norway.

The award for being the World's Best Small Cruise Ship, will be presented to the Master, Captain Remi Eriksen, and crew by Charles A. Poekel, Jr., President of Dream Luxury Cruises, during the ship's cruise departing Nice on September 17th. It is given each year to vessels that have constantly shown exceptional service and consideration for its passengers.

In making the announcement, Charles Poekel said his company had nominated SeaDream I for many reasons. "The passenger to crew ratio on board the ship is simply phenomenal so that one has a real sense of luxury, in every part of the ship. While in the Caribbean, they actually serve caviar to passengers on a surfboard and the concept of Balinese beds is unique and unheard of on any other cruise ship. The ability to sleep and dream on deck epitomizes the uniqueness of this ship and they live up to their slogan, "Prepare to be Spoiled," with every voyage.

The President of SeaDream Yacht Club, Bob Lepisto, said he was delighted with the award. “We are thrilled to be named World’s Best Small Cruise Ship by Dream Luxury Cruises. We pride ourselves on offering a yachting experience unlike any other and look forward to welcoming those interested in exploring beautiful boutique harbors and ports around the world.”

The Vencedor award is the first of its kind to be given to cruise ships for excellence by a U.S. retail travel agency. Mr. Poekel said it was, particularly fitting that a retail travel organization should make an award of this kind since 85% of all cruises are booked through retail agencies. "It's our way of showing, on behalf of cruise travel businesses in the U.S., that we very much appreciate the excellent care and high level of service given to our customers through the years by ships like SeaDream I."

The award which is named after the sloop ship Vencedor was designed by Mr. Poekel’s great-grandfather T.S. Poekel, the famous Danish yacht designer.  The yacht was the first American entry in the U.S. – Canada international sailing competition held on Lake Erie in 1897. Mr. T.S. Poekel had also been the Chief Draftsman for the Herschoffs who were responsible for designing several America's Cup winners.

Dream Luxury Cruises is a longtime member of the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) – also a proud member of the Ensemble Travel Group – and has, for over 65 years, been a member of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA).
