Top 10 holiday rentals hot spots for 2014

Out of the seven European destinations on the list, Cyprus and Costa del Sol in Spain complete the top three positions.

According to leading holiday rentals website AlphaHolidayLettings.com, holiday home owners in Europe look set to benefit the most in the coming year. The company has just published a list of “Top 10 Holiday Rentals Hot Spots” for 2014, based on trends, visitors and bookings received on their website in the last 12 months. The list is topped by the capital of luxury travel, Dubai, and also features seven European destinations. The complete top 10 rankings are:

1. Dubai
2. Cyprus
3. Costa del Sol
4. Paris
5. Algarve
6. Tenerife
7. Cornwall
8. Florida
9. Sydney
10. Majorca

Asked about the top destination on their website, Tom Lei from Alpha Holiday Lettings said, “With the already far-reaching and expanding network of Dubai’s Emirates airline, travelling to the city is becoming cheaper and more accessible.” Despite the global financial crisis, Dubai has regained its position as a popular destination for property investors and holiday makers taking advantage of the wide range of self-catering Dubai apartments and villas available at unique locations such as The Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina.

Out of the seven European destinations on the list, Cyprus and Costa del Sol in Spain complete the top three positions. The extensive choice of holiday villas and apartments, combined with the popularity of well-established resorts such as Coral Bay in Cyprus and Marbella in Costa del Sol, ensure that these destinations will continue to do well in 2014.

There is little surprise that Paris also feature high on the list. The “City of Light” is one of the most visited cities in the world, and has been recently named the “Best City To Visit In 2014” by the travel guide Lonely Planet. With Paris hotels generally on the expensive side, it would make more economic sense for families or groups to stay in apartments instead of hotels. It is also an excellent opportunity to experience the city like Parisians do.

Other contenders that made it to the top ten include long time favourites of European holiday makers – the Algarve region in Portugal, Tenerife in the Canary Islands and Majorca in the Balearic Islands. Cornwall in South West England is the only UK destination to feature on the list. Demand for holiday cottages in Cornwall has always been strong especially in summer months. The region’s appeal was further boosted by the popular TV drama series “Doc Martin” which was set in a picturesque Cornish fishing village. For long haul destinations, Florida on East coast USA and Sydney in Australia continue to attract masses seeking sunshine, beaches and great family holidays. The close proximity of their Florida vacation rentals to the world famous theme parks also plays a big part in making the destination one of the top picks for villa holidays in 2014.
