MOSCOW – On July 28, 2014, Transaero Airlines carried its 1,000,000th passenger in its unique Discount Class.
Transaero launched a new product offering passengers low-cost travel in Discount class on January 14, 2014. By launching this product, the company addressed the call of the nation’s leadership for enhancing air transport accessibility to the Russia’s residents.
At present, Transaero operates flights with Discount class from Moscow (Domodedovo airport) to nearly 30 domestic and international destinations, including to Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Kemerovo, Krasnodar, Mineralnye Vody, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Simferopol, Sochi, Stavropol, Tomsk, Ufa, Khanty-Mansiysk, Karaganda, Kokshetau, Kiev, Odessa, Vilnius, Berlin, Rome, Milan, as well as from Saint Petersburg to two destinations – Simferopol and Milan.
All seats on specified flights are sold according to Discount Class rules. Currently, the Discount programme involves 17 Boeing 737 aircraft of the airline’s fleet. The airline carries out a programme to modify the aircraft operated for Discount services to a mono-class configuration.
In addition to Boeing 737, Transaero operates widebody Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 767 aircraft for Discount services to a number of popular leisure destinations at the peak of the summer season.

Discount is a substantial and very popular product. The project’s scale is consistent with the airline’s performance that ranks among the top ten carriers in Europe in terms of passenger turnover. Transaero Airlines has received a number of the letters of recognition from the heads of the Russia’s regions as well as from passengers who highly estimated the new travel opportunities.
The Discount services contribute significantly to the growth of the airline’s passenger traffic on domestic routes that reached 45% over the first six months of 2014, which is the best result among the top five carriers in Russia.
The ticket fares include, in accordance with the Russian Federal Aviation Rules, free drinks and food or meals depending on flight length, and free luggage allowance. Members of the Transaero Privilege frequent flyer programme may earn points travelling in Discount Class at a 50% rate. Passengers are also offered a choice of newspapers and an opportunity to buy duty-free goods onboard.
The lucky one-millionth passenger of Transaero’s Discount class was the 22-year-old Yevgeny Kolesnikov who took the flight from Saint Petersburg to Moscow. Before his departure at Pulkovo airport, he was awarded with the Certificate for travel of two persons in Business class on any Transaero’s domestic flight or international flight to European destinations. The lucky passenger also received souvenirs from the airline and the airport.
