Travel is surging to these 5 destinations, according to Squaremouth

Five fastest-growing international destinations for U.S. travelers who purchased travel insurance are Israel, Iceland, Portugal, Vietnam and Norway.

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – Israel was the fastest-growing destination for American travelers who purchased travel insurance from leading travel insurance comparison site, Squaremouth, in the past year. Israel saw a nearly 50% increase in travelers, followed by Iceland which saw a 43% increase.

Squaremouth’s newly released report also includes the average trip cost for the top 5 fastest-growing destinations. This data shows a significant increase in traveler spending for Nordic countries.

  • Iceland (+43%)
  • Portugal (+42%)
  • Vietnam (+39%)
  • Norway (+36%)

Average Trip Cost Changes

  • Travelers going to Norway spent nearly double that of travelers heading to other fastest-growing destinations and increased more than 12% in the past year
  • Iceland saw a significant increase in trip spending of nearly 20%
  • Portugal became more affordable with a 10% decrease in the average trip cost
  • Israel saw a modest increase in the trip cost of less than 6%, and Vietnam saw a slight decrease in spending of about 3%
