Type22 launches Self Bag Drop at Geneva Airport

Passengers can tag and drop their bag at Scan&Fly, but are also welcome with pre-tagged baggage.

Yesterday was a memorable day when the first passenger at Geneva Airport used Self Bag Drop. Three Scan&Fly units from Dutch based Type22 provide passengers with this extra service. Passengers of SWISS, Lufthansa and a selection of other Star Alliance airlines can now use Scan&Fly during a six months trial. Passengers can tag and drop their bag at Scan&Fly, but are also welcome with pre-tagged baggage. Geneva Airport is the first airport that offers this combined Self Bag Drop solution. Lorenzo Stoll from SWISS, the Managing Director for Western Switzerland welcomed the first passenger. The passenger named Catherine from Belgium was positively surprised by the warm welcome and found Scan&Fly ‘very easy to use!’

More capacity
Jacques Morgenegg from Geneva Airport tells why they have chosen for Self Bag Drop: ‘Geneva Airport experienced capacity constraints in their terminal and saw Self Bag Drop as solution to create more terminal capacity and to speed-up the passenger flow. We were looking for a user-friendly solution for the passenger and handling agent in a retrofit package that could be placed on existing infrastructure. Type22 is the only provider that delivers Self Bag Drop in a combined process, and that was exactly what we were looking for.’

Goal of the trial
One of the goals of the trial with Scan&Fly is to study some important parameters like how Self Bag Drop will shorten the processing time and how it influences the operational aspects (like staff, queuing and flow speed) And of course Geneva Airport and the airlines wants to see how passengers react to this new technology.

Type22
Type22 delivers baggage handling products for airports and airlines to make hassle-free baggage handling become the standard. The company’s products are simple to use and are designed to fit seamlessly into the airport environment. Type22 works with the complete process in mind, not just the product.
