Scenic Group adds fast and reliable Internet access to all of its yachts in 2023 with Starlink

All four yachts to be outfitted by end of the year.

HOLLYWOOD, FL & VANCOUVER, B.C. – Fast and reliable internet connections have long presented the cruise industry with a challenge, as the ships must rely on satellite coverage as they sail to all four corners of the globe. Scenic Group, the parent company of Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours and Emerald Cruises, are pleased to announce their plans to add Starlink to their ocean-going fleets to ensure faster, more reliable internet connections for guests no matter where their ships sail.

Beginning with fitting their newest ultra-luxury Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, with Starlink prior to its christening on June 3, Scenic Group will also add Starlink to its 100-guest luxury yachts Emerald Azzurra before the end of June. They also plan to include Starlink on their second luxury yacht, Emerald Sakara, which is scheduled to launch in August. And finally, Scenic Eclipse will see it by the end of 2023. These upgrades will offer guests the ability to easily communicate with their friends and family back home – sharing their amazing vacation experiences through social media, and with photos and videos – almost as they happen.

SpaceX’s Starlink provides internet services for residences and businesses, but also transportation providers such as RVs, aviation, and the marine industries, with its first foray into the cruise industry sector in 2022. Its 3,500 satellites (with plans for upwards of 42,000) provide cruise ships with Internet access speeds of up to 70 times faster than standard satellites and offers more reliable Internet service. Service currently spans many of Scenic’s destinations and cruising routes – whether it is the ports of Europe or the most remote of places such as Antarctica.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours has grown over its 37-year history to include award-winning, truly all-inclusive river and ocean cruises and handcrafted land journeys that take guests to many of the world’s most fascinating destinations.

In 2019, Scenic introduced Scenic Eclipse, The World’s First Discovery Yacht. Hosting just 228 guests (200 in Antarctica), the Discovery Yacht offers ultra-luxury cruises to 63 countries – from Japan to Europe to Australia to Greenland to Antarctica – and so many in between. The onboard experience includes a near 1:1 guest-to-staff ratio, butler service, 10 dining experiences, a 5,920 ft² ultra-luxury spa, yoga and Pilates studio, vitality pools and bars, two state-of-the-art helicopters, a submarine and an expert Discovery Team. The arrival of its second Discovery Yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, launched on April 13, 2023 elevates ultra-luxury cruising to new heights. Scenic Eclipse II features a next generation submersible, Scenic Neptune II, custom-designed with Triton Submarines. The wellness experience in the Senses Spa and Owner’s Penthouse Suite has been significantly expanded in partnership with spa design leaders KLAFS along with the introduction of the new Sky Bar & Deck and vitality pool.

Emerald Cruises offers a diverse lineup of river and yacht cruises on three continents. Emerald Azzurra, the line’s first ocean-going vessel which debuted in March 2022, is a 100-guest, luxury yacht sailing the warm waters of the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Red Seas, and new for the 2023/2024 season, the Caribbean and Central America. In November 2022, Emerald Azzurra was named Best New Luxury Ship in Cruise Critic’s 2022 Editors’ Picks Awards. Emerald Sakara, the brand’s second luxury yacht launches in 2023. On the rivers, Emerald Cruises sails eight branded Star-Ships in Europe and one on the Mekong. The brand offers innovatively-designed ships, outstanding service and a focus on active shore excursions and onboard wellness offerings through their signature EmeraldACTIVE program.
