Announcing survey results recently, expected to ensure travelers smoothly maneuver through long security lines, the Sabre<.> Virtually There travel resource (www.virtuallythere.com) showed that some 73 percent of those polled (all future travelers) will journey by air during the upcoming holidays while a whopping 84 percent said they are going to travel by air in the first quarter of 2002. And while the aviation industry is expecting to get a good boost this forthcoming holiday season, travelers should be aware that the airlines surveyed in the same report underlined that 75 percent of domestic and 69 percent of international airlines request carry-on gifts be unwrapped.

The report, which commissioned a survey of 12 US airlines and 13 international airlines to gauge current rules and regulations for traveling with holiday gifts this year, and that was sent via the November 13 monthly Virtually There traveler e-newsletter and results were based on a sample of 1,000 people worldwide, concerns travelers who use the Virtually There personalized itinerary, travel information and special features to make and update travel plans.

According to the same survey, some 64 percent of those polled said they have traveled by air since Sept. 11, while a figure of almost 81 percent stated that they plan to travel for the holidays. Moreover a record 73 percent of those asked noted that they are planning to travel by air between now and January 5, 2002, while 49 percent of those surveyed were most concerned about safety/security air travel; however, 86 percent of the respondents said their concern was not high enough not to travel by air.
