Bye Bye “staycation”, hello last minute foreign sun

After the Jubilee weekend wash-out Britons just want to get away and it’s all about booking a last minute summer holiday according to latest figures from holidaylettings.co.uk, one of the UK’s leading holiday home websites.

Booking enquiries for villas and apartments in Cyprus leapt by 38% between the third and last week of May, when the weather suddenly took a turn for the worse during the bank holiday, while enquiries for France and Spain rose by 21 per cent week on week. In comparison enquiries for the UK, the site’s most enquired about destination prior to Jubilee weekend, increased by just 14 per cent.

"Jubilee week was all about holidaying in the UK and we saw enquiries rise by up to 500 per cent year on year in some areas," said Kate Stinchcombe-Gillies of holidaylettings.co.uk. "Now the bad weather seems to have dampened demand for ‘staycations’ somewhat, while demand for last minute summer holidays and guaranteed sunshine has shot up. Spain is currently our top most enquired about destination for July and August."
